The Coconut Tree Hill
Just like any other beach of Sri Lanka Mirissa is also famous for its beautiful sandy beach and the tropical surrounding, apart from the beauty, being a top spot for Whale and watching not only in Sri Lankan but from around the world, has gained more visitors to the place. Also, a top destination among the surfers as well, It offers many picturesque places for the selfie lovers. The Coconut Tree hill of Mirissa is such a place where any tourist who visited Mirissa definitely has a picture taken here.
So how do you get to the Coconut Tree Hills? If you are coming to Matara by train it is about approximately 3 – 4 kilo meters from the train station, if you take a tuk tuk ride it might cost you roughly Rs. 300 to 400 but if you take a bus you can get off the closest to the Coconut Tree hills. So, why visiting this place, simply because this place is amazing, the surrounding are second to none, even if you take the 4 kilo meter walk from the train station it is worth it.
The Parrot Rock
Mirissa is surrounded by tiny islands, Parrot Rock is one of the islands, so if you are visiting the Coconut Tree Hill, the parrot rock is also a must visit, once you reach the top of the rock you can see all the surrounding islands.
Mirissa Beach
So Mirissa is not only famous for Whale watching, do visits the surrounding places as well and of course do not forget to pack your swimming suits along because if you come to Mirissa and do not have a swim your trip is incomplete.
The Secret Beach
The secret beach in Mirissa is also another great spot, of course the name says it all, you have to get through the village to get the beautiful secret beach, not a very big beach but surely amazing enough to make your visit to Mirissa great. So, if you prefer an isolated beach to spend your time this will be the ideal spot as the main Mirissa beach can sometimes be crowded.
Now we will talk about the major attraction of Mirissa, the mighty Whale watching adventures. You get the opportunity here to view the Blue Whale (The largest in the world), sperm whales, Dolphins, orcas even killer whales. There are plenty of boat service providers and you do not have to worry about the safety, they are all well-equipped, family friendly. The only thing is, you have to start the journey early morning. Well believe me its worth it. In Mirissa you can spot whales through out the year that is some specialty. Personally these are the reasons I can tell you why Mirissa is famous but of course there are so many other things as well, night life, happening events, fishery and many more.
